Overview:
In July 2025, China saw notable fluctuations in both methane chloride imports and exports. Dichloromethane imports surged dramatically, while exports of both dichloromethane and trichloromethane experienced significant increases, particularly in comparison to the previous year. Export prices for both chemicals showed a decline, reflecting changes in market demand and trade conditions. This report provides a detailed overview of China's methane chloride import and export activities during this period.
Dichloromethane:
According to the latest data from China Customs, in July 2025, China imported 10.0 tons of dichloromethane, marking a month-on-month (MoM) increase of 1024.0% and a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 1.8%. In contrast, dichloromethane exports reached 17,562.5 tons, reflecting a MoM growth of 32.9% and a YoY increase of 185.8%. The export price stood at $362.5 per ton, down 6.4% MoM and 15.8% YoY.
From January to July 2025, China imported 54.7 tons of dichloromethane, a 44.4% YoY decrease, while dichloromethane exports reached 122,734.6 tons, representing a 33.7% YoY increase.
In terms of export destinations, China's dichloromethane exports from January to July 2025 were primarily directed to Turkey, Vietnam, Nigeria, Brazil, and South Korea, which collectively accounted for 45.8% of total dichloromethane exports. Exports to Turkey led the charge with 18,975.5 tons (15.5%), followed by Vietnam with 10,906.4 tons (8.9%), and Nigeria with 8,993.7 tons (7.3%).
Trichloromethane:
For trichloromethane, China's export data in July 2025 showed a decline. Exports totaled 118.4 tons, marking a MoM decrease of 45.7% and a YoY decline of 55.5%. The export price for trichloromethane stood at $302.1 per ton, reflecting an 8.7% decrease from the previous month.
From January to July 2025, China imported 1,575.4 tons of trichloromethane, a significant 64.6% YoY decrease. Exports of trichloromethane were also down, with a total of 1,031.5 tons, a 37.9% YoY decrease.
In terms of export regions, China's trichloromethane exports were largely focused on South Korea, Brazil, Ukraine, Iran, and Argentina. These five countries accounted for 98.3% of total exports, with South Korea being the leading destination, receiving 878.0 tons, or 85.1% of the total.
Conclusion:
In summary, China's methane chloride imports and exports in July 2025 show mixed trends. While imports of dichloromethane surged, exports saw notable increases for both dichloromethane and trichloromethane, although export prices experienced downward pressure. The export markets for dichloromethane remain diversified, with a significant portion going to Turkey, Vietnam, and Nigeria. Trichloromethane exports were more concentrated, primarily directed to South Korea and Brazil.
