In March 2025, China's urea trade showed a sharp divergence between imports and exports, reflecting shifting dynamics in domestic supply and global demand.
Urea imports dropped significantly during the month, totaling just $153,328. This marked a steep 61.74% decline from February and a 62.72% fall compared to the same period last year. Import volumes were equally subdued, reaching only 35,250 kilograms - down 89.59% month-on-month and 62.72% year-on-year. China sourced its urea imports from eight trading partners during the period.
In contrast, exports saw a strong rebound. Urea export value surged to $508,459 in March, representing a 103.76% increase from the previous month. However, year-on-year figures remained weak, with exports still down 56.73% compared to March 2024. The export volume reached 2,299,964 kilograms, up 63.62% month-on-month but down 45.40% year-on-year. Notably, shipments were limited to just two destination countries.
