VIETNAM'S BEAUTY INDUSTRY AT A GLANCE
In recent years, Vietnam's cosmetics industry has continued to grow steadily and sustainably. According to the latest report by Kirin Capital, the market size of Vietnam's cosmetics industry in 2024 is estimated to exceed USD 2.4 billion, marking a 3.4% increase compared to 2023. Amidst the rising demand for beauty and personal care, this figure is projected to reach approximately USD 2.7 billion by 2027, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 3.3% for the period 2023–2027. Notably, Singapore currently leads as the largest supplier of cosmetics, perfumes, and hygiene products to Vietnam, with nearly USD 380 million in exports over the first 11 months of 2024, accounting for more than 29% of the market share. South Korea ranks second with over USD 174 million, followed by China with more than USD 140 million-equivalent to a 10.8% market share. Thailand and the United States also feature in the top five suppliers, with import values of USD 139 million and USD 92 million, respectively.
Alongside the dominance of international brands, the Vietnamese cosmetics market is also witnessing a strong emergence of local brands. Vietnamese enterprises are gradually establishing their position by offering high-quality products derived from natural and organic ingredients at reasonable prices, catering to the growing demand of domestic consumers. According to Statista, the natural and organic cosmetics market in Vietnam is expected to surpass USD 62 million by 2025, reflecting a clear consumer trend toward sustainable and eco-friendly products.
E-commerce has been significantly transforming the cosmetic purchasing habits of Vietnamese consumers. The online premium cosmetics segment is currently valued at approximately USD 265 million (in 2024) and is projected to grow to USD 644 million by 2033, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11%. In the e-commerce landscape, Shopee stands out as the most favored platform for beauty shopping, leading the market in consumer preference.
Another notable trend in the Vietnamese market is the booming rise of social commerce, particularly through livestreaming and influencer marketing. According to a 2024 study by Wifi Talents, live shopping is revolutionizing the global e-commerce landscape, with 73% of users clicking "Buy Now" after watching livestream sessions. This growing model presents tremendous opportunities for cosmetic brands to quickly and effectively reach young consumers, especially Gen Z – a generation known for its dynamic purchasing behavior and constant pursuit of fresh, engaging shopping experiences.
From a regulatory perspective, Vietnam has continuously implemented reforms to facilitate the sustainable development of the domestic cosmetics market. In November 2023, the Ministry of Health proposed new regulations on cosmetics management aimed at streamlining administrative procedures while improving the quality and safety of domestically produced products. These regulatory updates help local businesses compete more fairly with imported goods and provide Vietnamese consumers with better access to high-quality, safe products. At the same time, international free trade agreements such as the CPTPP and EVFTA have contributed to tariff reductions, boosted international trade, and created a more competitive and diverse marketplace for local consumers.
In addition, the trend toward sustainable consumption and environmental responsibility is becoming increasingly widespread in Vietnam. According to a market report by Nielsen, the global green and sustainable technology market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 24% during the forecast period (2021–2027). Sustainability has emerged as a prominent trend in beauty and personal care in recent years, with the “clean” cosmetics market expected to reach USD 22 billion by 2027. Meanwhile, Net Zero is becoming a strategic priority for major corporations in the industry. With over 23 million search results related to “natural” and “organic” personal care products on Google, the sustainability of product ingredients is increasingly a critical concern that businesses can no longer afford to overlook.
