Malaysia Issues Notification on the 2024 Edition of the Electrical Equipment Approval Guidelines (Electricity Regulations 1994)

Malaysia has issued a notification on the *Electrical Equipment Approval Guidelines (Electricity Regulations 1994), 2024 Edition* (GP/ST/No.37/2024). The guidelines set out the following key provisions:
1. A list of electrical equipment subject to regulatory control.
2. Procedures and conditions to be followed by applicants when submitting the following:
(1) Certificate of Registration (CoR) for manufacturing or importation.
(2) CoR as a Conformity Assessment Body (CAB).
(3) Certificate of Approval (CoA) for the importation, manufacture, exhibition, sale, or advertisement of any electrical equipment.
(4) Renewal of a CoA for the above activities.
(5) Applications related to national deviations.
(6) Compliance with energy efficiency requirements.
(7) Labelling requirements.
3. The guidelines apply to all manufacturers, importers, exhibitors, sellers, and advertisers of regulated electrical equipment, as well as registered laboratories and certification bodies.
4. The new guidelines will come into effect on 21 June 2025.
