Brazil Oil and Gas Output Hits Record High in March 2026

Brazil's oil and natural gas production rose to a record high in March, driven by continued expansion in the country's prolific pre-salt reserves, according to data released on Monday by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).

The agency said Brazil's combined oil and gas output reached an average of 5.531 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) in March, surpassing the previous record set in February 2026.

Crude oil production averaged 4.247 million barrels per day (bpd), up 4.6% from February and 17.3% higher than the same month a year earlier. Natural gas production totaled 204.11 million cubic meters per day, rising 3.3% month-on-month and 23.3% year-on-year.

Output from Brazil's pre-salt fields, the country's main growth driver for hydrocarbon production, also hit a new record. Pre-salt production reached 4.421 million boe/d, accounting for 79.9% of the nation's total oil and gas output.

Offshore fields continued to dominate Brazil's energy sector, with 98% of the country's oil production and 87.8% of natural gas production originating from offshore operations, the ANP data showed.

The report also indicated that fields operated solely by Petrobras or in partnership with other companies represented 88.23% of Brazil's total oil and gas production.
