China Liquid Chlorine Imports Surge 78% Month-On-Month In March

China's liquid chlorine imports jumped 78.2% month-on-month to 22.1 tonnes in March 2026, though volumes remained 6.6% below year-ago levels, data from the General Administration of Customs showed.

For the first quarter of 2026, cumulative imports of liquid chlorine totalled 46.7 tonnes, down 3.3% compared with the same period a year earlier. China recorded no liquid chlorine exports in March, while January-through-March outbound shipments amounted to just 0.2 tonnes.

Trade Structure And Origins

General trade remains the dominant import channel for liquid chlorine into China. Japan and South Korea were the sole supplying countries in the first quarter.

Japan accounted for the largest share, shipping 34.4 tonnes to China in the January-to-March period entirely under general trade arrangements. South Korea supplied 12.3 tonnes over the same period, with shipments conducted under processing trade terms.
