Yemen Restarts Oil Export Operations To Support Economy

On July 20, local time, Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, chairman of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, announced that Yemen had resumed oil exports with immediate effect.

Al-Alimi said in an official statement that oil revenues would be specifically directed toward paying public employees' salaries, upgrading public services, and stabilizing domestic economic operations. The move aims to ensure that national resources benefit the entire population.

The Yemeni government will take all necessary measures to ensure the orderly continuation of oil export activities and strengthen the country's economic foundation, Al-Alimi said.

Government Calls For National Reconstruction Efforts

In his statement, Al-Alimi accused the Houthi movement of pushing Yemen into regional conflicts and disrupting the country's development process.

He called on residents in areas controlled by the Houthi movement to actively support national reconstruction efforts and help unite nationwide efforts to advance development.

Oil Export Suspension Had Strained Yemen's Economy

Yemen's oil exports were suspended in October 2022 after repeated attacks by the Houthi movement on oil export ports and related infrastructure under government control.

The disruption brought Yemen's crude oil exports to a complete halt, blocking a key source of government revenue and placing significant pressure on the country's economy and public welfare.

The restoration of oil exports is expected to ease fiscal pressure on Yemen and provide important support for improving living conditions and promoting economic recovery.
