China March VCM Imports Jump 40.28% as Exports Surge

China's vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) imports rose sharply in March 2026, while exports also recorded substantial growth, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs of China.

China imported 63,200 metric tons of VCM products in March, up 40.28% from a year earlier and 44.63% higher than the previous month. However, cumulative imports for the January-March period totaled 163,200 tons, down 14.4% year-on-year.

On the export side, China shipped 12,100 tons of VCM products in March, marking a year-on-year increase of 301.74% and a month-on-month rise of 299.89%. Total exports in the first quarter reached 21,100 tons, up 42.88% compared with the same period last year.

Japan, Taiwan and South Korea remained China's main VCM suppliers in March. Under general trade and processing trade arrangements, China imported 35,900 tons from Japan, 15,000 tons from Taiwan and 12,300 tons from South Korea.

For the first quarter as a whole, Japan accounted for the largest share of China's VCM imports, supplying 95,000 tons, or 58.2% of the total. Imports from Taiwan reached 35,000 tons, representing 21.47%, while South Korea supplied 33,200 tons, accounting for 20.33%.

India, Vietnam and Japan were the leading destinations for China's VCM exports in March. Under general trade terms, exports to India totaled 6,100 tons, while shipments to Vietnam and Japan each reached 3,000 tons.

During the January-March period, India remained the top export market for Chinese VCM products, receiving 9,100 tons, or 43.07% of total exports. Vietnam imported 9,000 tons, accounting for 42.79%, while exports to Japan stood at 3,000 tons, representing 14.14%.
