China to Continue Venezuela Cooperation as Foreign Ministry Addresses Oil Imports
On January 5, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed questions regarding China–Venezuela relations and future oil cooperation during a regular press conference chaired by spokesperson Lin Jian.
A journalist from Spain's ABC newspaper asked whether China had been in contact with Venezuela's acting president, Rodríguez. The question also referenced remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who stated that the United States would increase investment in Venezuela's oil sector, prompting inquiries into whether China would continue importing Venezuelan oil.
In response, Lin Jian said that China respects Venezuela's sovereignty and independence and believes the Venezuelan government will properly manage its domestic affairs in accordance with its constitution and laws.
He emphasized that cooperation between China and Venezuela is conducted between sovereign states and is protected by international law as well as the domestic laws of both countries. Lin added that regardless of political developments in Venezuela, China's position on deepening practical cooperation across various fields remains unchanged, and China's legitimate interests in Venezuela will continue to be safeguarded in accordance with the law.
