China's Seafood Imports Record Strong Growth in October 2025 Across Major Categories

1. China Imported 68,122 Tonnes of Frozen White Shrimp in October

China's General Administration of Customs has released import statistics for frozen white shrimp covering January to October 2025. The data shows that cumulative imports reached 724,917 tonnes, with a total import value of US$3.778 billion.

In October alone, China imported 68,122 tonnes, representing a 5% month-on-month increase.

In terms of supply structure, imports during the first ten months of 2025 remained concentrated in core production regions, with the top three suppliers accounting for over 92% of total imports:

Ecuador: 549,700 tonnes (75.82%), maintaining a dominant position;

India: 108,200 tonnes (14.93%), ranking second;

Thailand: 16 thousand tonnes (2.20%), serving as an important supplementary source.

Overall, China's frozen white shrimp import market demonstrates stable supply dynamics. Ecuador continues to secure a leading position, while India and Thailand jointly support a diversified supply structure, providing strong market assurance.

2. China Imported 48,428 Tonnes of Frozen Alaska Pollack in October, Up 30.67% YoY  

China's General Administration of Customs has published Alaska pollack import statistics for January to October 2025. Cumulative Alaska pollack imports reached 54,215 tonnes, representing a 2.7% year-on-year increase, with an import value of US$751.352 million.

Import Performance by Category

Frozen Alaska Pollack: Cumulative imports totalled 506,009 tonnes, accounting for 93.3% of total Alaska pollack imports. October imports were 48,428 tonnes, reflecting a 30.67% year-on-year increase.

Frozen Alaska Pollack Fillets: January–October imports reached 7,996 tonnes, contributing to product diversification, while October imports stood at 210.38 tonnes.

• Supply Sources

Russia supplied 512,900 tonnes in total, including 479,300 tonnes of frozen Alaska pollack and 6,905 tonnes of fillets.

The United States supplied 26,900 tonnes, including 24,300 tonnes of frozen Alaska pollack and 1,090 tonnes of fillets.

3. China's Atlantic Salmon Imports Exceeded 15 thousand Tonnes in October, Setting a New Record

According to newly released data from China's General Administration of Customs, Atlantic salmon imports from January to October 2025 totalled 124 thousand tonnes, comprising 113 thousand tonnes of chilled salmon and 11 thousand tonnes of frozen salmon.

In October 2025, total Atlantic salmon imports reached 15,700 tonnes, marking the first time monthly imports exceeded 15 thousand tonnes and establishing a new historical high, with a 64% year-on-year increase.

Chilled salmon imports reached 12,900 tonnes, rising 75% year-on-year, marking the strongest growth rate of the year.

Frozen salmon imports reached 2,773 tonnes, the highest level in nearly four years and up 28% year-on-year.

From January to October 2025, the market showed 'robust overall growth and record-breaking monthly performance', reflecting rising consumer demand. Chilled salmon continued to dominate the market, while frozen salmon presented strong development potential and diversified supply support.

4. China Imported 40,200 Tonnes of Cuttlefish and Squid Products in October, Up 48.76% YoY

China's General Administration of Customs has released import statistics for cuttlefish and squid products from January to October 2025. The data indicates that cumulative imports reached 426,200 tonnes, a 36.6% year-on-year increase, with an import value of US$1.461 billion. Of this volume, 406,200 tonnes were frozen cuttlefish and squid (HS 030743).

In October, China imported 40,200 tonnes, up 48.76% year-on-year, including 37,660 tonnes of frozen cuttlefish and squid, increasing 50.27% year-on-year.

Peru: 141,402 tonnes (+365.92% YoY) from January to October; 8,204 tonnes in October (+117.49% YoY).

Indonesia: 58,769 tonnes from January to October; 7,238 tonnes in October.

Argentina: 48,408 tonnes (+23.22% YoY) from January to October; 2,482 tonnes in October (+135.03% YoY).
