According to data from China Customs, China imported 45,100 metric tons of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) in March 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 241.01% but a month-on-month decline of 36.27%.
From January to March 2025, total VCM imports reached 190,700 metric tons, up 20.19% compared to the same period last year.
In contrast, VCM exports from China stood at just 3,000 metric tons in March 2025, marking a steep year-on-year decline of 83.36% and a 65.71% drop from the previous month.
Cumulative exports for the first quarter amounted to 14,800 metric tons, down 65.23% year-on-year.
Import Sources
In March 2025, China's VCM imports mainly came from Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan (China), with the majority arriving under general trade terms.
1) Imports from Japan reached 34,100 metric tons
2) From South Korea: 6,000 metric tons
3) From Taiwan: 5,000 metric tons
For the January–March period, Japan remained China's leading source, supplying 105,700 metric tons and accounting for 55.43% of total imports.
South Korea followed with 44,900 metric tons (23.57%), while Taiwan contributed 40,000 metric tons (21%).
Export Destinations
In March 2025, China's VCM exports were solely directed to Vietnam, with 3,000 metric tons shipped under general trade.
For the first quarter, Vietnam, India, and Malaysia were the primary export destinations:
1) Vietnam: 6,000 metric tons (40.76%)
2) India: 5,700 metric tons (38.89%)
3) Malaysia: 3,000 metric tons (20.35%)
