European Chlorine Output Edges Up in October as Year-to-Date Production Declines

In October 2025, chlorine production in Europe totalled 634 thousand tonnes, marking a marginal year-on-year increase of 0.3%, compared with 632 thousand tonnes recorded in October 2024. Over the January–October 2025 period, cumulative chlorine output reached 6.57 million tonnes, representing a year-on-year decline of 2.3% from 6.722 million tonnes in the same period of 2024.

Average daily chlorine production in Europe stood at 20 thousand tonnes in October 2025, down from 21 thousand tonnes in September, while remaining broadly in line with the 20 thousand-tonne daily average recorded in October 2024. During the month, the average capacity utilisation rate of European chlor-alkali plants was 64.8%, slightly lower than September’s 65.9% but higher than the 62.2% recorded in October 2024.

European caustic soda inventories reached 270 thousand tonnes in October 2025, increasing from 260 thousand tonnes in September. On a year-on-year basis, inventories rose by 71 thousand tonnes, compared with 199 thousand tonnes in October 2024.
