High-level China-U.S. economic and trade talks were held in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 10 to 11. On the evening of May 11 local time, He Lifeng, Chinese Vice Premier and the lead representative of the Chinese side in the talks, said at a press conference that the discussions were candid, in-depth, and constructive, resulting in significant consensus and substantive progress.
According to He, both sides agreed to establish a China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism. The two countries will work swiftly to finalize the relevant details, with a joint statement on the outcomes of the talks scheduled for release on May 12.
He emphasized that the talks attracted significant international attention, especially under the current global circumstances. Through joint efforts, the negotiations proved productive and marked a meaningful step toward resolving differences through equal dialogue. The progress lays a foundation for further narrowing differences and deepening cooperation.
He Lifeng underscored the broader significance of China-U.S. economic and trade relations—not only for the two nations but also for the stability and growth of the global economy. He expressed China's willingness to work with the U.S. side to implement the key understandings reached during the January 17 call between the two heads of state. He called for pragmatic problem-solving through honest dialogue, equal consultation, and effective management of differences. He also stressed the need to unlock cooperation potential, expand areas of collaboration, and create more shared benefits to inject greater certainty and stability into the global economy.
