Recently, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine issued Order No. 1356, revising the list of national standards applicable to the "Technical Regulations on Machinery Safety," further aligning with the European Union's Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC). The new regulations cover 15 categories of machinery, including explosion protection, laser equipment, and electric bicycles. The implementation will be phased, with the final provisions set to take effect by 2027. Key revisions are as follows:
1. New Standards Added
* EN ISO 13849-1:2023: General design principles for machinery safety control systems.
* EN 15194:2024: Safety requirements for electric pedal-assisted bicycles (EPAC), with the exception of the vibration risk clause.
* EN 1417:2023: Safety requirements for twin-roll machines used in plastic and rubber production.
2. Outdated Standards Removed
* Outdated standards, such as the mining explosion protection standard (EN 1127-2:2014), have been removed and replaced by newer versions.
3. Phased Implementation
* November 15, 2025: Laser equipment (EN ISO 11554), airport ground support equipment (EN 1915-1), and others will take effect.
* May 15, 2026: Commercial vacuum packaging machines (EN IEC 60335-2-119) will come into effect.
* May 15, 2027: Agricultural tractor control systems (EN ISO 25119 series) will be implemented.
The revisions aim to clarify risk control requirements in the design and production of machinery, reducing accidents. Additionally, through mutual recognition of EU standards, the changes will help lower export compliance costs. The Ministry of Economy's Deputy Minister will oversee the implementation, with businesses required to undergo compliance assessments via the UkrSEPRO certification body.
