According to data from China Customs, China imported 23,200 tons of ethylene dichloride (EDC) in May 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 44.56% but a month-on-month decline of 52.32%. EDC exports stood at 122.5 tons, down 38.44% year-on-year yet up 204.33% from the previous month.
From January to May 2025, China's cumulative EDC imports reached 157,400 tons, marking a substantial year-on-year surge of 387.25%. Over the same period, cumulative exports amounted to 674.5 tons, a sharp drop of 89.16% compared to the previous year.
Regional Breakdown:
In May 2025, China's EDC imports were solely sourced from South Korea under general trade, totaling 23,200 tons. Exports were distributed to Vietnam, Angola, Kenya, and Georgia, also under general trade. Specifically, 67.5 tons were exported to Vietnam, 20 tons to Angola, 20 tons to Kenya, and 15 tons to Georgia.
For the January–May 2025 period, China's main sources of EDC imports were South Korea (87,200 tons), the United States (66,300 tons), and Taiwan, China (4,000 tons). Major export destinations included Vietnam, Angola, Kenya, Nigeria, and Russia. Exports to Vietnam totaled 527.75 tons, accounting for 78.24% of the total; exports to Angola reached 40 tons (5.93%), while Kenya, Nigeria, and Russia each received 20 tons (2.97%, respectively).
