According to data from China Customs, China imported 40,100 tons of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) in May 2025, marking a year-on-year decline of 24.36% and a sharp month-on-month decrease of 55.64%. VCM exports totaled 9,000 tons, down 30.03% year-on-year but up 49.70% compared to April.
From January to May 2025, China's cumulative VCM imports reached 321,200 tons, up 6.70% year-on-year. In contrast, exports totaled 29,800 tons, representing a significant year-on-year drop of 53.71%.
Regional Breakdown:
In May 2025, all VCM imports originated from Japan under the general trade category, totaling 40,100 tons. Exports were distributed evenly among Vietnam, India, and Japan, with each destination receiving 3,000 tons under general trade.
During the January–May period, China's main VCM import sources were Japan, Taiwan (China), and South Korea. Imports from Japan accounted for 189,400 tons (58.95%), Taiwan 75,100 tons (23.37%), and South Korea 56,800 tons (17.68%).
On the export side, the primary destinations over the five-month period were Vietnam, India, and South Korea. Exports to Vietnam totaled 9,000 tons (30.29%), India 8,700 tons (29.35%), and South Korea 6,000 tons (20.20%).
