China's Ethylene Trade Brief - April 2025

According to China Customs data, China imported 207,000 tonnes of ethylene in April 2025, down 4.47% from the previous month but up 48.48% year-on-year. Cumulative imports from January to April reached 856,400 tonnes, marking a 48.42% increase compared to the same period last year.
In contrast, ethylene exports in April stood at 4,300 tonnes, surging month-on-month but plunging 72.98% from a year earlier. Total exports for the first four months of 2025 amounted to 15,100 tonnes, down 47.73% year-on-year.
During the January-April period, China's ethylene imports were primarily conducted under general trade (81.16%) and processing trade (18.84%). The main sources were South Korea, Japan, and Oman. Imports from South Korea totaled 601,000 tonnes, accounting for 70.18% of the total, followed by 158,300 tonnes from Japan (18.49%) and 49,300 tonnes from Oman (5.76%).
All ethylene exports during the same period were carried out under general trade. The main destinations were Indonesia, Pakistan, and Taiwan (China), with 7,200 tonnes shipped to Indonesia (47.88%), 4,300 tonnes to Pakistan (28.35%), and 3,500 tonnes to Taiwan (23.26%).
