According to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics, China produced 6.425 million tons of plastic products in May 2025, representing a year-on-year decrease of 1.8%. For the first five months of the year, total plastic products output reached 31.65 million tons, reflecting a 5.4% increase compared with the same period in 2024.
In May, the top five provinces by production volume were:
* Zhejiang Province - 1.124 million tons (17.5% share)
* Guangdong Province - 1.119 million tons (17.4%)
* Hubei Province - 622,000 tons (9.7%)
* Jiangsu Province - 532,000 tons (8.3%)
* Fujian Province - 451,000 tons (7.0%)
From a regional perspective, China's eastern region continued to lead in plastic products output from January to May 2025, with a cumulative production of 19.954 million tons, accounting for 63.0% of the national total. The central region followed with 7.29 million tons (23.0% share), while the western region produced 3.776 million tons (11.9%). The northeastern region contributed 630,000 tons, representing 2.0% of the total output.
Overall, China's plastic products industry maintained steady growth in the first half of 2025, with the eastern region firmly holding its position as the primary production hub.
