Global Epichlorohydrin Market Sees Capacity Growth And Trade Shifts

Global Epichlorohydrin Production Capacity Exceeds 4 Million Tons Per Year In 2025

Global epichlorohydrin production capacity exceeded 4 million tons per year in 2025. Based on production capacity, the top 10 global producers accounted for 45.3% of total global capacity.

Olin Corporation ranked as the world's largest epichlorohydrin producer, accounting for 6.8% of global production capacity. HAILI Chemical and YANGNONG CHEMICAL ranked second and third respectively in terms of production capacity.

In 2024, global epichlorohydrin international trade value reached USD 540 million, increasing 6.9% year on year. Total trade volume reached 407,000 tons, up 19.1% from the previous year.

From a pricing perspective, the global average export price of epichlorohydrin was USD 1,318.1 per ton in 2024, down 10.3% year on year.

Global epichlorohydrin imports were mainly concentrated in South Korea, India, and the United States, with combined imports accounting for 56.1% of global import volume. Major export markets included Thailand, China, and South Korea, which together accounted for 60.7% of global export volume.

China Epichlorohydrin Market Sees Capacity Growth Amid Lower Operating Rates

China's epichlorohydrin production capacity increased 14.4% year on year in 2025, continuing the expansion trend from 2023 to 2025. However, production decreased 0.4% year on year, with the average operating rate standing at 46.5%.

In recent years, China's epichlorohydrin industry has experienced rapid capacity expansion, while operating rates have continued to decline.

By the end of 2025, China had nearly 30 epichlorohydrin producers. In terms of production technologies, new projects are mainly based on the glycerin chlorination process and direct hydrogen peroxide oxidation process, while outdated facilities mainly using the chlorohydrin process are being phased out.

Epichlorohydrin Consumption Growth Driven By Expanding Epoxy Resin Demand

China's apparent consumption of epichlorohydrin increased 0.6% year on year in 2025, with a self-sufficiency rate of 105.5%.

The largest downstream application area for epichlorohydrin is epoxy resin, while smaller amounts are used in TGIC, chlorohydrin rubber, solvents, stabilizers, surfactants, water treatment agents, and other applications.

In 2025, epoxy resin consumption accounted for 90% of China's epichlorohydrin demand, increasing by 5.0 percentage points compared with 2020.

China Epichlorohydrin Trade Shows Export Adjustment In 2025

China's total epichlorohydrin imports reached 1,000 tons in 2025, unchanged from 2024. Export volume reached 71,000 tons, down 15.5% year on year.

In terms of export trade methods, general trade ranked first, accounting for 78.3% of total exports. Processing trade with imported materials ranked second, accounting for 19.4%.

China's epichlorohydrin exports were mainly shipped to South Korea and India. Shipments to South Korea accounted for 37.2% of total exports, while exports to India accounted for 35.0%.

China Epichlorohydrin Capacity Expected To Increase By 520,000 Tons Per Year By 2027

Over the next two years, new epichlorohydrin projects in China will mainly include Dezhou Shihua Chemical, SHANDONG CHANGYI HAINENG CHEMISTRY, and SANYUE Chemical.

China's new epichlorohydrin production capacity is expected to reach 520,000 tons per year by 2027, further expanding the country's supply capacity and reshaping regional market dynamics.
