Production Overview of Major Products in China's Caustic Soda Industry Chain - April 2025
According to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the country produced 3.713 million metric tons of caustic soda (100% basis) in April 2025, marking a year-on-year increase of 4.5%. From January to April, cumulative caustic soda output reached 14.959 million metric tons, up 5.3% year-on-year.
Upstream, raw salt production stood at 4.866 million metric tons in April, representing a robust 16.7% increase compared to the same period last year. For the first four months of 2025, total raw salt production amounted to 16.470 million metric tons, up 11.1% year-on-year.
Downstream, alumina production reached 7.323 million metric tons in April, a 6.7% year-on-year growth. From January to April, total alumina output came in at 29.919 million metric tons, up 10.7%.
In the paper industry, production of machine-made paper and paperboard (excluding processing with purchased base paper) was 13.484 million metric tons in April, an increase of 1.6% year-on-year. For the January-April period, output totaled 51.571 million metric tons, reflecting a 3.3% year-on-year growth.
In contrast, fabric production in April declined by 1.1% year-on-year, to 2.72 billion meters. However, cumulative output for the first four months reached 10.12 billion meters, showing a modest 2.3% increase year-on-year.
Production of synthetic detergents dropped to 870,000 metric tons in April, down 4.5% from the same month in 2024. From January to April, the total output was 3.567 million metric tons, a slight 1.9% increase year-on-year.
